My backyard:
Took a few shots the other night from my roof; in more ways than one...

My front yard:

Lil Wayne starts off in the parking lot right next to my loft and passes my front door and local birdwatching spot LA Cafe.

My playground:

Starting off on the river bridge, through my stomping grounds of DTLA, and ending up in Venice, these guys know where it's at.

Kris Lewis

About a year ago, thanks to Da Owl, I was privileged enough to be a part of an art show put on by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and the famous artist Kris Lewis.  The show was called Worlds On Fire and the idea behind it was to gather the most talented artists in the World to paint or artistically depict all of the musical artists who had been nominated for Grammys that year.  I got to attend the show, meet the players, interview a few of the artists, and edit a teaser that showcased a few of these artists and their work.  All of the artists did extremely amazing jobs at depicting their vision of their particular musical artist.  I was especially drawn to the work of Kris Lewis as his Beck painting exerted a very appealing and smooth style that the eye could stare at for days.  Take a peep below at some of Kris' work and I'm sure you'll agree that it's quite easy and very appealing to get lost in his art...

Overheard In CA

Just frothed a coffee with lil buddy Kevo downstairs and did some serious birdwatching.  As we sat there lurking, a bunch of weird ass people began sitting down around us and before we knew it, we were amidst some of the most bizarre conversations we've heard in a good while.  Not only did a transvestite wearing tight ass red pants, make up, and a stomach baby carrier filled with a bunny walk by (true story.com) but the guy next to us would not stop talking about his damn dog as he babbled on: "ehhh where's the dog bowl at this place? ehh screw him he can wait, the whole World is his damn chew toy and shit stop anyway".

The amount of times I find myself next to freaks like this is countless and I figured surely you all have been in similar situations where you couldn't help but listen to some weird ass conversation happening an ear shot away from you.  If this has ever happened to you or is happening to you as we speak, I wanna hear about it!  Send me emails (SurfAmbassadorHendo@gmail.com) with weird ass conversations you overheard during the weekend or at work or school or in a public bathroom etc.  Where ever or whatever it is that you hear weird shit, remember it and send it to me and I'll be posting the best ones on here every so often.  There are some weird ass people in this world that have a lot of entertaining shit to say so don't be scurrrrred to let me know about it!

Who Roofied MGMT?

A few songs from MGMT's new album Congratulations destined to flop ummm I mean drop April 13th have been leaked and needless to say they don't exactly meet expectations.  MGMT certainly set the bar high with Oracular Spectacular, a CD that exploded with insta-classics such as "Time To Pretend", "Kids", "The Handshake", "Pieces of What", and a few others that made the CD an epic listen from start to finish.  Congratulations on the other hand, has yet to grow on me or may be I just haven't smoked enough ice for it to sound good?  May be these leaked songs are just a cruel joke and their new CD is just gonna blow minds?  Hey, a frother can dream can't he?
Some of the songs are decent and have brotential but check em out for yourself and then tell me if you think they suck ass, balls, or tits?

Splinta The Rat is Legend!

Ever heard of a little film called 5th Symphony Document?  It only won Surfer Magazine's Video of the Year in 2001 and was nominated for best cinematography (no biggie).  Ever heard of a lil band called Pepper?  They're only one of the biggest and best rock reggae bands of our generation (no biggie).  Or what about a lil island called Tavarua?  Eh, it's only the dreamland home to two of the best lefts in the entire World (no biggie).  What do all of these things have in common?  Besides being accomplishments that most of us normal humans can only dream about, they have the big mark of a Rat!  This is no ordinary rat, it's Splinta The Rat!

Chad Campbell aka Splinta The Rat is a legend in more respects than one.  As the director of 5th Symphony Document & Shane Dorian's The Blueprint, the senior editor of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing TV shows, the Filmer of Drive Thru Australia, and the owner of Folklore Films, it's safe to say that he's got filmmaking and TV in the bag.  Traveling on tour performing and rapping with the World famous band Pepper as well as getting signed to Law Records with Arena Productions, Splinta has got music in da bag.  If that wasn't enough (fack mate you're killing me here with this renaissance man shit haha), Splinta rips harder than you, pulls into heavy ass barrells, frequently boosts "ay-ers", and gets shacked at Tavarua in his sleep for a good few months outa the year as a legendary boatman.  Needless to say he's got surfing in the bag.  Fack man, is there anything you can't fucking do? ha you're starting to make me look bad ha.
Da Rat getting rooots at Cloudbreak

Over the years I have had the honor of becoming homies with Chad and have worked with him on various Triple Crown shows through da boyz over at Windowseat Pictures.  The skillz, laughter, good times, and straight up wisdom that Splinta brings to da table is insanely more valuable than any of the countless $150 self-help books I constantly find myself umm I mean my cat buying.  Anyways, as fate would have it, we wrapped our Triple Crown show this year and decided to have a lil shindig, Ambassador Style.  With beer flowing like the Euphrates river, myrts frothing like a hen house (total of 4), and 2 frothy MC's in the house (1 wana be who goes by the name of Surf Ambassador Hendo aka the Artist Formerly Known As Hendonesia and 1 true life professional/hip hop tour vet by the name of Splinta The Rat), it was inevitable that shit was gonna get weird!  And weird it got my friends, weird it got!  Check out the lil clip bellow filmed by lil buddy Noah as Splinta The Rat and Surf Ambassador Hendo break down some freestyle beats with a lil dash and spice of their own and a lyric here and there from their famous tracks.  All and all we were just messing around and havin a good time (this is by no means "the best freestyle ever", well at least mine ha).  Without further adieu, I present to you "I Came To Party" (Ratone Remix):

Be on the look out for more upcoming film projects done by the legendary Chad Campbell as well as Splinta The Rat's new album entitled "Splinta The Rat is Dead" co-starring Philly B and featuring: Jenni Jenni & Micah of Iration, Deathsyle, West End, & Race.  I was fortunate enough to get a copy of "Splinta The Rat is Dead" and let me just say the Rat is not dead my friends, he is very much alive and he's taking the World by storm one froth at a time!  Rooooooooooooooots!

Dane Reynolds' Time Machine Van

I dunno if you're as much of a Marine Layer Productions lurker as myself but if you haven't had a chance to check out Dane Reynold's blog it's by far the best one out there.  Simple and minimalist, his blog is filled with entertaining content and videos that shock me each and every time I see em.  Anyways, just recently during the Quik Pro at Snappers, when Dane wasn't owning the water and the waves, he was owning the streets.  During his Aussie stay, he obtained his "Charlie Brown Time Machine" van that he and his girlfriend custom painted, putted along the windy roads of Oz in, and undoubtedly made tracks in foreign soil.  After the comp was over, Dane decided to give away his classic van to the first person who snagged it at the Snapper lot.  The sequence of events went something like this:

You can check ou the video footage here (scroll to March 9th)  of the guy who scored the Van as the boyz up top watch him get in the thing, start her up, and slowly sloth along to the van's next wild and crazy adventure.  Think I'm gonna start giving more shit away on my site thanks to the inspiration of da time machine, rooooooooots!

SurfInk

Surf-Ink, Surfer Tats, Chattoos, Skin Art, Tattoos, call it what you will but it's starting to become more common these days that surfers and tattoos are starting to get a lil more acquainted with one another.  Hell, come to think of it, tattoos and a lot of Californians are starting to get more acquainted as well (or is it just cause I live in LA?).  But what makes Surf-Ink different or better or cooler than normal ink?  Not my place to say lil buddy, but it's pretty evident that the act of getting ink done is not solely related to the sport you play, the band you like, the artists you admire, or the experiences you have had but often times these characteristics tend to influence the art and pieces that people get on their bodies.  Tattoos themselves can play so many different roles in peoples lives that listing each of the roles would certainly be strenuous and there's a good chance I'd miss various aspects.  So instead of getting too into this whole subject, I thought I'd just point out a few of the pros that have ink whether they got a small piece done on their finger from losing a bet like Julian Wilson did or they went all out and got face tats like gnarls Joe Crimo.  Kinda feels like the opposite of a Myrtle Monday cause it's a bunch of dudes with their shirts off n shit (I'm sure the myrts are stoked) but here's most of the SurfInk I could find:

Julian Wilson's Ten Pin Win:

Ry Craike's "Hey Burt" Vegas Bender Tat

Joel Parkinson

Dion Agius

Mick Fanning getting his Kirra Eagle tat

Fanning's Family Crest and an ode to his late brother Sean

Looking for a good tattoo artist?  Search no more.  My old neighbor and LJ ripper Andrew Farnsley has been doing incredible work over the years and is straight up killing it down at Mark Mahoney's Shamrock Social Club down on Sunset in Hollyweird.  Another good friend and Venice loc, Marcus Muse has inked up a few of our mates and the results are always more than stellar!
